SAT 7th FEB: GOING DIZZEE IN NEW YORK CITY

Dizzee Rascal hanging out with Guy Brighton in Volume

Saturday saw the awesome Dizzee Rascal when we returned to Volume on N.13th in Williamsburg. They had this juggernaut in the huge warehouse space they have with a long trailer where he and his mate pranced around and the DJ span his discs. The act was in fact introduced by the truck being started (cough, cough) and it's fog-like horns being blasted. Not too sure many of the 'locals' understood his cockney-rude-boy accent. But to us all he looked and sounded awesome - especially when he went solo - no mate, no backing track, just poetry....

Volume is still a little under construction (or maybe they want it to look that way??). As i was getting my coat, Dizzee and his entourage brushed passed me into a small scarppy room. And suddenly I was pushed in too. There I was - with the latest and the greatest of the UK's garage fraternity - I remembered the Lady and tried to leave - damn, it was harder to get out of the room then it was to get into the club earlier. I made a scene and some kind person in charge must have spotted me and the security kindly threw me out of the room before the Lady noticed.

Phew
