SUN 25th APR : USA MEDIA

Much of the day was spent in a daze. Decided to do some catching up with the news only to be disappointed.

I used to be one of those ex. pat Brits who defended Americans ignorant view of the world around them by saying that America is so huge that there's enough going on already in America. What an idiot I was/am:

No doubt there is a hell of a lot of important, interesting and culturally news worthy events happening within the USA as there are around the world. American's aren't culturally ignorant because they are self absorbed - the American press fails to even provide a diverse education of what's going on within it's own borders.

Want an example? The Sunday version of New York Times, I guess, actually runs only 4 stories every week and then writes stories around them: at the moment these focus on Iraq, Bush/Kerry, New York real estate, Isreal. I gave up long ago trying to find European or World news (or the results of the most popular sports in the world) through the American Media and now I realise that I know nothing of America either because the media seems to be self obsessed with providing deep focus on so few stories.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say. Is it that Americans are ignorant because of their news? Or, is it, that Americans aren't ignorant, despite their news?
