Sun 31st July : Hampton'd Out

Spent 4 days at the Hampton's with the Lady's family. Up in the springs with her parents and brother. It was just like Philly - lots of bbq steak and fish and jumping in the pool and playing cards - just in a different house.

In some ways the Hamptons is just like New York - everyone beeps the fk out of you if you slow down to gawp at someone's big house. There is also no parking.

Shelter Island was a scene. That little bar, restaurant on Sunset Beach with all the little speed boats coming in to it.

And then you leave Shelter Island to the north - to Bridgepoint or whatever its called. And you really are back in America with a bump - Harley rallies and classic rock on the pier. You know then, your holiday is over. Back to the reality of NYC.

Mini Portable Classy BBQ

53068_s4001Good spot by the Cool Hunter on this one: "The Gourmet Traveler is a briefcase that turns into a portable, rotating grill that uses charcoal. Designed for those who cannot go without their weekend barbecue or grilling session, whether at the beach, farm, countryside or alongside the pool or apartment veranda, the grill possesses a battery that runs for eight hours and can be hooked up to a vehicle's cigarette lighter or any power outlet."

At the beach?? Just outside my window on the fire escape, more like.

Open Bar Listings eMail List!

Tipsynews1When I first came to New York, I was told that there were so many parties that you could go out every night in this city and drink and eat for free.

Sounded good to me. But, I just didn't know the parties...

But now two fellas called Rob Hitt and Seva Granik from Williamsburg realized the dire need for a centralized and coherent source of openbar listings (because "paying rent and shelling out 7 bucks on a Brooklyn Lager just wasn't working out"). Each week, they'll send out an email with a listing of bars offering free alcohol. Over time, they promise zip-code driven search and sort capabilities too!

Fri 15th July : Model's Pet

I'm sitting in Snice, just tapping away and a bunch of skinny 18 year old models sit around the table before me. All straight from a shoot, all blonde, skinny, tanned, leggy  - you know the sort you watch on TV and hate.

But right now, I just want to be sat at the table and petted. "Ah, poor little Guy."

Thur 14th July : Must Have Been To London

So my throat hurts. Actually it feels like someones scratched it. I feel tired. How long does it take to recover from a trip to London?? And this one was a quiet one.

Left NYC about a week ago - it's amazing how you forget how long you've been here. The Continental gate at EWR soon brings you back with a bump. Lots of lazy English accents and mums that can;t wait to get back for a decent cup of tea.

I red-eyed and got in to London from Gatwick. For a moment, I got nostalgic memories of commuting - as my face stuck against the glass divider, crushed by the morning commuter crowd.

My latest visa - yeah. long story - got processed far too quickly for my liking: I didn't even have time to get all stirred up and nervous. I just got called in and stamped.

London is a bustle of joy. I sat with a friend off Carnaby Street and watches fellas with their girlfriends go from store to store. In NYC you think metrosexuality is dead - in London, it's alive and well with added spikey and mud flap hair.

Thursday was of course sad. Horrific. We've all been on those trains, through those tunnels at that time of the day before. It's important that we carry on - which is what we all did the next few days. I undrstand all the NYCers didn't take the subway that day - what a bunch of sissies.

I saw a few friends still but less beer because of what happened. People still seem to be spending their Saturdays doing the same mix of alcohol, food and recreationals. I missed the Lady whilst I was there. I particulary missed her cooking. BBQs aren't really BBQs when you just turn up and throw on the stiff you just bought at the shops. Where's the preperation, the theatre?

The Lady would have done it different. That's why I'm glad I'm home. Yum. Always goes down my throat to my tummy nicely.

Stussy Low Rider

26042027_b5a2241359_m1 Of course, I'm not recommending exercise here - but if you were impartial to a little dashing about, you could try riding one of these Stussy bikes by Nirve.

Yeah. I know.
